Committee Mission
The mission of the 2002-2003 EKU Strategic Planning Committee (SPC)
is to continue the planning process for EKU, building the next iteration
of our plan upon the work of the past. In doing so, the committee will
successfully complete the charge given by the University President no
later than May 13, 2003.
Goals
To accomplish its mission, the SPC will:
- Develop an inclusive strategic planning process.
- Implement an inclusive strategic planning process in order to review
the mission, and develop a vision, goals, and strategic directions
at the institution level.
- Develop a plan for linking the budget and strategic planning processes.
- Develop a strategic plan template to be implemented across campus.
- Develop the role and responsibility of the SPC beyond May 13, 2003.
- Develop a process for implementation, assessment, and review of
the strategic planning process.
- Communicate and/or solicit input from internal and external stakeholders.
To fulfill these goals, the SPC will:
- Be inclusive and representative of internal and external stakeholders.
- Be professional.
- Be efficient and effective.
- Communicate regularly with constituents (be the voice).
- Build upon the work of past planning efforts.
- Use technology.
- Develop quality products to meet stakeholders' needs.
- Focus on broad issues/big picture.
- Develop a process that will empower individuals.
- Combine flexible organizational structures with a commitment to
plan regularly.
SPC Structure:
Strategic Planning Process Subcommittee: The purpose of this
subcommittee is to develop a strategic planning process that will be
implemented with the entire SPC and the campus community to revisit
the EKU Mission and to develop a limited number of strategic directions.

Strategic Plan Subcommittee: The purpose of this subcommittee
is to identify and prepare the elements of the EKU Strategic Plan and
a template for all university levels. (Chair: Darryl Barnett:DB.Barnett@eku.edu)
Budget and Strategic Plan Subcommittee: The purpose of this
subcommittee is to develop a plan to link the strategic directions with
the budget process and allocations for the 2004 and beyond academic
year. (Chair: Ken Johnston, Ken.Johnston@eku.edu)
Assessment and Review Subcommittee: The purpose of this subcommittee
is to develop the role of the SPC committee and the mechanism by which
the strategic planning process will be assessed and a plan by which
the assessment will be used to improve and modify the institutional

Communications Subcommittee: The purpose of this subcommittee
is to ensure that communication occurs between the SPC and our constituencies;
in addition, this subcommittee should assist SPC in gaining participation
