Academic departments, educational support units and administrative support units at EKU are required to define student learning objectives (identified as 'educational' objectives in TracDat). Specifically:

Academic units that award degrees, minors, and certificates

  • 3 student learning objectives for each academic major program
  • 3 student learning objectives for each option of12 credit hours or more (at least one unique objective for the option)
  • 1 student learning objective for each minor
  • 1 student learning objective for each certificate program with less than 30 credit hours (if more than 30 credit hours, then need at least one additional objective)

Education support unit with student activities involving student learning
  • 3 student learning objectives for each unit/program

Administrative units not directly involved with student learning
  • 1 educational objective (objective that articulates an indirect relation to student learning in order to demonstrate linkage between unit and overall educational mission of the University).

Multiple methods of assessment are recommended for each objective. At least one direct measure of assessment must be used for each student learning objective. A second assessment measure may be direct or indirect.
